Emery Weinstock Uses Explosiveness and Shot Creation to Stand Out at The Spooky Shootout

Player Standout

Weinstock plays with a noticeable level of explosiveness, using his first step to put defenders under pressure and create opportunities off the dribble. He is comfortable taking opponents one-on-one and has enough strength to maintain his line when attacking the basket. Rather than relying on one move, he mixes changes of direction with hesitation moves and a developing bag of tricks to create separation and get into the paint.

His finishing package was another area that stood out during my evaluation. Weinstock showed the ability to use Euro steps, controlled strides, and different angles around the rim to navigate traffic. He also displayed touch on mid-range jumpers and post fades, giving him options when defenders cut off his initial drive. Although his first instinct is often to score, his skill set gives him multiple ways to generate offense against set defenses.

What’s Next

As a true eighth grader in the Class of 2031, Weinstock is a young lead guard worth monitoring as he continues to develop. His speed, ability to create his own shot, and willingness to attack defenders give him a strong offensive foundation. Continued growth in shot selection and balancing his scoring instincts with opportunities to involve teammates will be important as he progresses.

Weinstock made a positive first impression at The Spooky Shootout. His ability to create advantages with the ball in his hands gives him a clear identity, and I look forward to seeing how his game develops with Pro Dev
